This digital illustration is a reimagining of Alphonse Mucha’s “Spring.” It reimagines the composition within the context of Filipino culture. The piece incorporates cultural elements such as traditional Filipino clothing, flowers, and instruments. Every part of the composition was thought out in immense detail to honor my Filipino culture.

Sinamak: How to Make Filipino Spiced Vinegar

Sinamak, or Filipino spiced vinegar, originates from the Iloilo region of the Philippines. My family comes from Bacolod, a neighboring city to Iloilo, so sinamak has always been an integral part of our kitchen.

Every family member has a bottle for their household. When I first moved out, that was one of the first things I got from the Filipino side of my family.

Sinamak is super easy to make and can be used in just about anything! Add a splash to your ramen, use it in marinades, and use it alongside soy sauce and garlic to make some yummy adobo.

Once it has been made, all you need to do is top it off with vinegar when it gets low. Due to the vinegar’s preservative qualities, it will last basically forever!

If, after several years, only the seeds of the chilis are left, you can revitalize it by adding more of the “dry” ingredients.
